On August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, the Ravin’ Stompers held their third Country and Western Festival on the promenade in Aberystwyth.

This was a fun and free festival that kept the Stompers busy on both days raising money with all sorts of activities. All profits raised from this festival will be donated to Bronglais Hospital Breast Cancer Fund. The festival gets bigger and better each year with people travelling from afar e.g. Ireland, Forest of Dean and Cheshire to line dance, listen to the music and socialise, meeting up with old and new friends.
On Sunday, visitors were entertained by talented Johnny Holland and ever-popular Paul Bailey. This is the second year that Paul has appeared at the festival. As the weather was changeable, both artists sang under cover in the bandstand but the wet weather didn’t deter the dancers from dancing inside, outside and along the prom!
Paul Bailey entertained the crowds again on the Monday together with the fabulous duo Back 2 Back and the popular country singer Bobby Jones. The weather had improved by this time, and the artists and dancers were all outside. What a fantastic view it was watching the artists and the dancers with a backdrop of the sea.
The disco on both days was provided by Heulwen of the Ravin’ Stompers and the compare for the weekend was Eleri who is a bit of a live-wire and did a fantastic job of keeping things running to time. She is one talented individual who can turn her hand to anything and raised extra cash towards the Fund by holding a mini auction.
The Junior Ravin’ Stompers gave a line dancing demonstration on both days. These youngsters who are all under 12 years of age have only been line dancing for 6 weeks. As they showcased their talents, passers-by were captivated by their enthusiasm and skill. A truly magical experience!
On Sunday night a Fun Evening was held at the RAFA Club in Aberystwyth. Entertainment for the night was provided by Eddy P who not only sang Country and Western but also impersonated Elvis. This went down a treat especially when he appeared out of his temporary dressing room dressed as a vision in a white, glittery, sparkly suit.
Although the final amount has not yet been calculated, approximately £2,000 has been raised for Breast Cancer Care. The total amount will be confirmed when a cheque is presented to Bronglais Breast Cancer Care Fund on 10th October.
The Ravin’ Stompers would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the local businesses who generously supported the Festival by donating prizes.
